Robert Francis

The man you are, the boy you were
Have sometimes been together here
Like elder brother and younger brother
Of whom we say How like each other.
The boy you were, the man you are
Though far apart seemed not so far,
Seemed like a son and father rather
Of whom we say Son favors his father.
But there are moments I have known
When just a word you spoke, the tone
Of the word—and boy and man were one.
