Dana Gioia is the author of four books of poetry, including Pity the Beautiful (Graywolf, 2012), and three books of essays, including Can Poetry Matter? (Graywolf, 1992). He received the American Book Award in poetry for Interrogations at Noon (Graywolf, 2001). He is the Judge Widney Professor of Poetry and Public Culture at the University of Southern California and is the former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.
