HILARY MASTERS

Born and raised in Kansas City, Mo. Graduated Brown University. Worked as theatrical press agent in NYC;founded weekly newspaper in Hyde Park, New York; began to write full time after sale of newspaper.
Published eight novels, two collections of stories, a collection of essays and a family memoir. The family memoir, "Last Stands:Notes from Memory" to be republished by SMU Press in October 2004 with an introduction by Philllip Lopate. Also on the horizon a book-length essay on the curious relationship between the Mexican muralist Juan O'Gorman and E.G. Kaufmann the Pittsburgh "merchant prince" who also built "Falling Water." To be done by U, of Pittsburgh Press, spring of 2004.
Awards and notations include Best American Short Stories, Best American Essays, Doubleday Best Essays, but the two awards of which I am most pleased are the Balch Award for Fiction (VQR) and the Award for Literature from the American Academy for Arts and Letters.
