Philip Caputo
Philip Caputo served in the US Marine Corps from 1964–67 as a member of the first ground combat unit to fight in Vietnam–a time described in his classic memoir A Rumor of War. From 1968–1977, he served as a reporter and foreign correspondent for the Chicago Tribune, sharing the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting in 1972. His first novel, Horn of Africa, was a finalist for the National Book Award in 1980. The author of thirteen books of fiction and nonfiction, his most recent novel is Acts of Faith (Knopf, 2005), set in war-torn Sudan. He is currently at work on a novel set along the US-Mexican border.
