Arthur C. Clarke
The British science fiction author produced an enormous quantity of novels, short stories, and essays during his life (1917-2008), most famously "2001: A Space Odyssey." Clarke invented the geostationary communications satellite, proposed in his 1945 paper, "Extra-Terrestrial Relays."
