@ Lorraine - US nationals were also killed in these attacks. There was an international message the terrorists wanted to give. They wanted to stop India's interaction with the the West and Israel. It is in the interest of the US that such attacks are stopped and India remains a partner for the West in the future.
There has been US pressure on Pak. But the Pak authorities have not been sincere in their efforts.

@ Lorraine. The US has been trying, but nothing has happened. US seems to have limited influence over Pakistan. Former Indian ambassador to Pakistan rightfully said that Pakistan listens only to China and Saudi, China for arms and Saudi for money. The terrorists/bad guys seems to have enormous political clout and support within Pakistan. Terrorists like Dawood Ibrahim have received safe haven in Pakistan for atleast 10 - 15 years.

The only hope is that there is an awakening within Pakistan's leadership to work closely with India and hand over these criminals to India.

99% Indians and 99% of Pakistanis have only good feelings towards each other, it is the 1% of people who are interested in creating problems.

@Gaurav. Do you believe that the U.S. should exert pressure on the Pakistani government to turn over the terrorists to India for trial?

@Lorraine - for justice to be served the "handlers" should be caught and punished for their crimes. We know that they are in Pakistan - the calls were traced to Pakistan. The role of the Pak army, ISI in this attack should be exposed. The Lashkar-e-Toiba should be destroyed - it's leaders like Hafiz Saeed and Zakhi-ur-rehman Lakvi should be tried for crimes against humanity in an international court.

There is no way India can secure itself. The long porous borders with hostile, unstable countries as neighbours, India will always be at risk. I had read somewhere about Pakistan that "Pakistan is not a country with an army. Instead it is Pakistani Army which owns the country" Pakistani army has a stake in everything from telecommunications to bakeries. It is in Pakistani army's interest to keep the relations with India burning lest Pakistanis realise the ridiculous amount of money spent on its armed forces. Pakistani army is exploiting a country to meets its selfish aims. The furore triggered by Kerry - Lugar bill highlights this fact. There is no way Pakistani Army will allow normalization in Afghanistan or peace with India. Such a situation will simply remove the primary justification for their continued exploitation of Pakistani people not to mention billions that American taxpayers are giving Pakistanis as aid. The drain on American resources is also being enjoyed by China, Pakistani Army's real masters.
As for India, the only recourse is to comprehensive intelligence effort not just in Pakistan but increasingly in Nepal and Bangladesh. India must also bolster development in Bangladesh and Nepal. More importantly it must be seen to be doing so.

I feel that it is my privilege to have read the comment threads, and to see the words of those who survived this incident. I send you peace.
But I have a question. What it will it take for you to feel that justice has been served in the wake of this incident? Is such an abstract concept even thinkable, given what happened?
