VQR Wins a National Magazine Award
By Kevin Morrissey

The National Magazine Awards for Digital Media (aka the Digital Ellies) were announced yesterday afternoon in New York City, and VQR beat out such heavyweights as Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Mother Jones, Slate, and Time to pick up the award in the News Reporting category for Jason Motlagh’s “Sixty Hours of Terror.”
Motlagh, a 2004 alumnus of our own University of Virginia, offered a deeply reported and gripping account of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. It has emerged as the definitive account of the three-day coordinated assault on India.
This marks four National Magazine Awards and eighteen nominations for VQR in the past six years. Congratulations go out to Jason and the entire staff of VQR!
The winners of the print Ellies will be announced in an April 22 ceremony at Lincoln Center. We’re in the running for two more awards: Photojournalism and Fiction.

Congratulations Jason!
I know you have worked very, very hard for it! The best written independent news report I have ever read. Such a close-up that you actually feel like being there while reading, yet as objective as it can be! Excellent!
