The Virginia Quarterly Review is accepting applications from college juniors and seniors and graduate students for its Fall editorial internship program. Interns work on a part-time, unpaid basis for three to five months, for eight-ten hours a week.
Responsibilities include:
- Editing nonfiction pieces for style and structure
- Fact-checking articles and essays
- Writing for the print issues (book notes, introductions, back cover copy)
- Writing for the VQR blog, as well as writing VQR Vault entries
- Researching VQR's history
- Assisting editors with assorted administrative tasks
- Helping with the review of submissions
Interns are encouraged to read widely. They should have strong writing skills, a good work ethic, and an ability to think critically. Ideally, interns should have experience in researching and fact-checking.
Three internship sessions are available: Summer (June through August), Fall (September through December) and Winter/Spring (January through May), with up to three interns per session. We are currently accepting applications for our Fall Internship Session. Applications are due by August 1, 2008.
To apply, please email a resume, cover letter, and non-fiction writing sample (very short essays or book reviews are preferable) to molly@vqronline.org. In your cover letter, please clearly indicate that you are applying for the VQR Fall '08 internship. Preference will be given to UVa students.
