David Leavitt

David Leavitt is the author of numerous books of fiction and nonfiction, including the novel The Two Hotel Francforts (Bloomsbury, 2013) and The Man Who Knew Too Much: Alan Turing and the Invention of the Computer (Atlas/Norton, 2006). He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Institute for Catalan Letters. He teaches at the University of Florida’s MFA in Creative Writing, where he is the founder and editor of Subtropics.

The box dates from the late sixties, from a trip I took with my family to Ireland. I would have been eight or nine at the time. Of the trip itself I have one vivid memory. We are in a rental car, my father at the wheel, his attention focused vigilantly on the challenge of driving on the wrong side of the road.
