Lewis Turco

Lewis Turco is Emeritus Professor of English and founding director of the Program in Writing Arts at State University of New York at Oswego, and also of the Cleveland State University Poetry Center. He has published more than twenty collections of his poetry, including The Shifting Web: New and Selected Poems (1989) and a book of literary criticism, Visions and Revisions of American Poetry (1986). His most other books include The Book of Literary Terms (1999).

The vacant lot where we North Third Street kids played softball on those sunny Connecticut summer days was full of trees, and it was small. When we wanted to play hardball, we went down the street, to West Main, crossed, walked a hundred feet or so to our left, and turned into the Lincoln Junior High School driveway.
