Samanta Schweblin

Samanta Schweblin’s first book, El Nucleo del Disturbio (Planeta, 2002), won Argentina’s Fondo Nacional de las Artes and the Concurso Nacional Haroldo Conti. Her second, the story collection Pajaros en la Boca (Random House / Lumen 2009) received the Casa de las Américas International prize.

I needed to rest so I rented a big house near the coast, far away from the city. I was almost there, following a gravel road toward the sea, when the thick grass made it impossible to go on driving. The roof of the house could be seen in the distance. I decided to get out.
