Fort Sill, Oklahoma, June 1978

ISSUE:  Spring 1979
Dragonflies in the hot air;
army helicopters perched
on the runways near the road.

On the one hill of the Post Cemetery
the Chiefs are buried—
Quanah Parker, Kicking Bear.
Their graves all face the east.

Jet trails in the stratosphere
add to the silence
around the graves of warriors.

Not looking for the grave
of Geronimo—
a prairie falcon over our heads.
