No Harvest

ISSUE:  Autumn 1928

O grief has ploughed my heart
Again and again,
And deeply furrowed it
For planting Pain. . . .
I wonder if a time
Will come when there
Is Winter, and my scarred,
Tired heart will bear
No harvest, but will sleep
Like a Winter’s field
Beneath the snows, knowing
It cannot yield.
