Catherine E. McKinley, a former Fulbright Scholar in Ghana, West Africa, is the author of The African Lookbook: A Social and Design History in 1,000 Moments in Style (Bloomsbury, forthcoming 2015), Indigo: In Search of the Color that Seduced the World (Bloomsbury, 2011), The Book of Sarahs: A Family in Parts (Counterpoint, 2002), and the editor of the anthology Afrekete (Doubleday, 1995). Her articles on African fashion have appeared in Hand/Eye and Sarah Lawrence Magazine. She is an M.A. candidate at New York University, where she studies costume and fashion history and twentieth-century photography.
