If we were to go
if the house fell in an earthquake
if fire, if fire
& we were burned out
I imagine the redwood
in what we call our
backyard
would keep living.
I call myself I
but below its bigness am
small
eye & animal
near forest fractal.
Look: The gash
in its bark
thickens to heal
on our neighbor’s fence.
Look: The green hummingbirds
take us as neighbors.
