Gideon Mendel

Biography

Gideon Mendel is a London-based South African photojournalist. For more than twelve years he has been documenting the impact of HIV/AIDS in Africa, working in ten different countries to show the many ways the disease has devastated the lives of millions of ordinary people. He has been a regular contributor to numerous publications, including National Geographic, Fortune Magazine, Stern, L’Express, and The Guardian Weekend, among others. In 1996 he received the prestigious W.  Eugene Smith Grant in New York for his work on AIDS in Africa.
