Jan Barry

Jan Barry is a poet, author of A Citizen’s Guide to Grassroots Campaigns and a new poetry collection, Earth Songs, and a staff writer for The Record of Bergen County, NJ. He is a recipient of the 2003 Community Service Award from the Society of the Silurians, the oldest press club in the United States. Born in 1943 in Ithaca, NY, he lives in Montclair, NJ. Appointed to the U.S. Military Academy after a stint in Vietnam, he resigned from West Point to become a writer and peace activist. His poems on the war appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times, A People and A Nation: A History of the United States, and Winning Hearts and Minds: War Poems by Vietnam Veterans, among other anthologies.
