“Listen to what the words spell, listen and sing the song,” says Wright in the last line of _Scar Tissue_. For his extraordinary listening and singing his recompense is $757 per page. Well deserved.

Scott Griffin, entrepreneur and founder of the Griffin Poetry Prize, purchased the House of Anansi Press in 2002, bailing it out of bankruptcy. Do you imagine he knows that a year after Anansi was founded it published one of Charles Wright’s books––DREAM ANIMAL (1968)?
