Tressie McMillan Cottom

Tressie McMillan Cottom is an associate professor in the School of Information and Library Science at UNC-Chapel Hill and Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Information, Technology and Public Life (UNC). She is the author of two books: Lower Ed: The Troubling Rise of For-Profit Colleges in the New Economy (New Press, 2016) and THICK: And Other Essays (New Press, 2019), a finalist for the National Book Award for nonfiction. She is the 2020 recipient of the American Sociological Association’s Public Understanding of Sociology career award and hosts a culture podcast with Roxane Gay, Hear to Slay.
